Eucharist: Sacrament of Unity
Since the days of its origin as the Passover Meal, the Eucharist has unified people around the memorial events of the Exodus and the New Covenant Passover of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will take a journey in time, exploring these two Passovers in song and story. We will look at the Jewish and Christian "speed bumps" in the form of theological controversies and liturgical challenges. Finally, together we will try to "make a straight highway for our God," as we look at paths to reconciliation and true Communion.

Social Media: Sign of Unity or Sign of Distinction?
The sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is a sign of unity. Our Lord’s love is shared during this sacred moment as he invites us to join Him. Are you responding to his invitation? Would it help if Jesus sent you a text or posted a reminder on your Facebook wall? Maybe you don’t have a Facebook account. How about a tweet?
Since the emergence of social media, its benefits are questioned. Today, many of us rely on the means of social networking to communicate reminders, share with friends and family, market events, and more. Does this new technology encourage and strengthen our unity or is it separating us from each other and Christ? Do the benefits of social media outweigh the harmful effects? Join me as we come together to discuss this delicate and timely topic. Take advantage of this moment to reflect on your own personal and professional practices and weigh if your actions are uniting God’s people or causing a greater divide. |

May I Have a WORD with You?
In a world of so much noise and distraction, it can be very difficult to hear or even pay attention to what it going on around us, let alone the people closest to us!
The same is true of God’s WORD. Just as time is required to focus in on what others are saying or what’s happening in our world, time is required for listening to God’s WORD, sacred time, quiet time!
God beckons us in the Liturgy of the WORD, and in daily scripture reflection and prayer, to be nourished by the WORD. As catechists, there is so much God wants us to hear. And the time we take to listen will be to the benefit of those we catechize so the words we proclaim will resonate with the WORD we have heard. |

Tools for Reconciliation: Conflict Resolution for Children
The Eucharist is the sacrament of communion between those who allow themselves to be reconciled in Christ who made of Jews and pagans one people, tearing down the wall of hostility which divided them,. Only this constant impulse toward reconciliation enables us to partake worthily of the Body and Blood of Christ. In the memorial of his sacrifice, the Lord strengthens our fraternal communion, and urges those in conflict to hasten their reconciliation by opening themselves to dialogue and a commitment to justice. The restoration of justice, reconciliation, and forgiveness are the conditions for building true peace. This workshop will focus on helping us teach children basic skills for resolving conflicts—listening, developing empathy, problem solving and making amends—in relation to the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. |

From Table to Table: Conectando la liturgia y la vida familiar (bilingual - bilingue)
What happens at home is a lot like what happens at Church - or at least it is supposed to be. The table, both in the home and at Church, is where the family gathers for nourishment, both physical and spiritual. This bilingual workshop will illustrate the disconnect experienced by so many families between home life and church life; and it will demonstrate in contrast the connection between them, since principally they both--the Church and the family (the domestic church)-- draw their life from the Eucharist.

Building Unity Despite the Challenges of Social Media
As Catholic educators, we are called to teach as Jesus did. Our obligation is to work collaboratively to protect God’s children and bring them to a better understanding of their faith, God’s love, and the Church. In today’s culture, this vocation can be a daunting task. How do we approach this important calling while dealing with the challenges of social media? Do we choose to forbid our children from social networking? Do we take the opposite approach and embrace technology, or is there an alternative?
This session will take a close look at the latest challenges generated by the use of social media. The dangers of chat roulette, cyber bullying, internet predators, and sexting will be reviewed. Learn about strategies other schools and programs are using to strengthen their unity despite these obstacles, and discuss an approach to education that is sure to impact children. |

Essential Charisms for Spiritual Leadership - for Principals
The challenge of continuing the tradition of high standards in the Ministry of Catholic Education is being met today by increased teacher accountability, competency standards, certification programs in catechesis, outcomes and evaluations. It takes a wise leader to accomplish all of this without losing the heart and soul of the educational experience.
But the wise leader is also keenly aware of the Spiritual Leadership needed to enlighten the heart and soul of each young person and teacher so they can continue growing as Disciples of Jesus Christ.
This presentation will explore the Essential Charisms needed for this wise Spiritual Leader. Participants will be involved! |

The Holy Sacrifice and Our Messed-up World
In the darkness and pain that many of us face in our lives, the Mass can seem irrelevant. Yet it is precisely in those struggles that we can discover its unique grace. In Pope Benedict’s words, "The Eucharist draws us into Jesus' act of self-oblation." By rediscovering the Eucharist as His “Holy Sacrifice”, in which we also participate, a grace of reconciliation and unity is unleashed for ourselves and our world. |

Forgiveness Rooted in Eucharistic Love
The Eucharist and forgiveness are intimately connected. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we seek forgiveness so we can once again be in communion with God. We desire the Eucharist for Holy Communion with Christ. Jesus is the incarnation of forgiveness. When we receive Him in the Eucharist, it is the same body and blood of Christ given for us on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Thus, the Eucharist, the epitome of love, infuses us with the fullness of forgiveness and provides the grace that enables us to forgive. |

Living as Crumbs of the Loaf or Drops in the Cup:
Practical implications of Eucharist in the Christian Life
Images of participation in the presence of Christ enable the Catholic to grasp the material and practical implications of the Eucharistic mystery in daily life. How does union with Christ get lived in the ordinary secular world? What are the implications for our relationships with those who agree and disagree with us? How does the Spirit’s trajectory of Unity (drawing us together) work in relationship to the Spirit’s Trajectory of Catholicity (dispersal to the margins)? Drawing on Pope Benedict’s Sacramentum Caritatis and the rich tradition of Eucharistic Theology, this presentation aims both to form and inform its hearers.

Eucharistic Liturgy as Informative, Formative and Transformative
This workshop will examine the Eucharistic Liturgy through the lens of the theological virtues, demonstrating the vital importance of a liturgical formation that is truly informative, formative and transformative. The celebration of the Eucharistic liturgy can only fulfill its intended purposes by means of a faith that is ‘living, explicit and fruitful’; this workshop will demonstrate how Catechists can utilize the Eucharistic liturgy as a source for liturgical catechesis. Participants will leave with concrete examples of how to better prepare persons of all ages to celebrate and receive our Eucharistic Lord. |

Biblical Roots of the Eucharist
Employing what Benedict XVI calls the "hermeneutic of continuity", the lecture will seek to illustrate the developmental unity of God's call to be worshiped by Man. The presentation will examine the antecedents of the Eucharistic Sacrifice in the Old Testament, sketching a history of sacrificial worship in ancient Israel and second temple Judaism. The aim is to demonstrate that the Christian Eucharist is not something invented by the early or medieval Church, representing a break with the worship of Israel, but rather a liturgy which is providentially foreshadowed in the Hebrew scriptures. |
